Adonis (he/they/fae)
“Spectrum is just a warm, welcoming organization that’s just trying to do a little bit. And that little bit goes a long way.”
My Story
When Adonis applied to Spectrum’s Gender Affirmation Products Program (GAPP), he had one goal: legally change his name.

It was something he had wanted for years but, like many trans people experience, the process felt out of reach.

“I’ve never sat well with my old name,” Adonis shared. “When I landed on Adonis, it felt right.”

He had tried to navigate the process on his own before. It didn’t go well. “My anxiety spiked so bad,” he said. “I couldn’t navigate the court system. Legal language just went over my head.”

Then he found Spectrum.

Adonis was connected with a Community Health Worker who helped him every step of the way – breaking down paperwork, explaining legal terms, and preparing him for court.

And when the day came, Spectrum didn’t just prepare him, they showed up.

“I was freaking out,” Adonis said. “Like, completely panicked [but] they were able to break everything down, calm me down, and walk me through it. It was really nice just having somebody there with me.”

That moment standing in a courtroom, navigating a system not built with you in mind, is where many people get stuck.

Your support helps remove that barrier.

Because of Spectrum, Adonis successfully changed his name. Now, seeing it on official documents brings him joy. “It fills me with all the good, fuzzy feelings,” he shared.

But the process doesn’t end there. Updating IDs, bank accounts, and records comes with new challenges and more confusion. “There were so many hiccups,” Adonis said. “I was like, am I ever going to get this done?”

Through it all, Spectrum continued to provide guidance, and Adonis reassures, “Spectrum is just a warm, welcoming organization that’s just trying to do a little bit. And that little bit goes a long way.”

Today, Adonis is working full-time, studying graphic design, and building a future that reflects who he is. After moving to Spokane for love, he’s planning to get married.

Like many trans people, his journey hasn’t been easy but support made it possible. His message to other trans people is simple: “Reach out. Get the support you need.”

And his message to donors is just as clear: A little support can make a life-changing difference.
